One of Your Favorite Hymns

Today in Sacrament Meeting instead of talks, we had sort of a musical testimony meeting. Anyone could get up and talk about a favorite hymn and then the congregation would sing a verse or two from the chosen song. The meeting was very enjoyable and we thought how much we'd like to hear more about people's favorite hymns. We soon realized that our blog would be a perfect way for that to happen. So, here it is. Please share with us your one of your favorite hymns. If it's not too personal, you could also share the reason why it is one of your favorites (We say "one of" because we're sure that everyone has many favorites).

I'll start off. One of my favorite hymns is All Creatures of Our God and King. On days when I am filled with the Spirit the whole world seems to testify of God and His love for me and I feel like singing "Allelujiah" with the rest of creation. It is a triumphant song of praise.

  1. Well I'm sure you've noticed by now that I love almost every hymn! I just like to think about the words and when they're with the music the message is so powerful!! The upbeat hymns are AWESOME and the sacrament ones are like gaining a testimony all over again... Anyway, If I had to pick one favorite, besides "If You could Hie to Kolob" :), I'd have to say... "Praise to the Man". It is so powerful and I love Joseph Smith so much for all he did and all he was and we owe so much to him and it pretty much reiterates that God has a plan for us and it's just purely amazing. I love it. Cliche? Sorta. But that's how I feel! It's just awesome.

  2. Well I am crying already just thinking about it. My favorite Hymn would have to be " Come thou Fount of Every Blessing."

I am not fully sure why I love this song so much. But every time I hear it I like I am so close to Him and that if I just let go He will be right there always. This is the one I wanted to sing today but its not in the Hymn Books any more.

  4. I go through favorite hymns about every two days and my favorite at the moment is probably "Because I Have Been Given Much". I feel so blessed to have the gospel in my life- this just makes me want to share it with everyone I know so that they can feel as happy as I do!

One of my favorites is True to the Faith because it was my grandma's favorite hymn.

She passed away afew years ago and she is still very much in communication with our family and this song helps me feel her spirit.

  6. I'm going to have to go with "Lead, Kindly Light." There have been many times in my life when I have felt that I would never make it out of the dark. This hymn has helped me realize that the Lord is there to bring me into light. I just need to ask. Besides that, the lyrics were written as a poem by 19th century poet John Henry Newman. The English major in me loves that. . .

Sounds like you are having a great time at school. Be good and have fun! Love you,

  7. My favorite hymn is Hark All Ye Nations. Our family has only traveled to attend general conference once. We heard a missionary choir sing that hymn in the session we attended. It was one of the last conferences with President Hinckley. I love the tempo, the enthusiasm, and words to this hymn. You can't be grumpy and sing this song at the same time. The words fill my soul with his spirit
